Meet Margie,
The name Margie means “pearl”.
In this painting I was exploring the human journey through life, and how creation and the environment mirrors this adventure symbolically.
Like a pearl, we all go through many stages of growth and refinement during a lifetime. This can take many forms, and at our core we are shaped by internal and external pressures and changes.
Pearls are unique as they are the only gemstone created by a living creature. Most gems are created underneath the earth's crust, however pearls start to form when a tiny piece of sand gets into the mollusc, they are made under water which in itself is symbolically rich. Water, in many cultures, carries important spiritual significance - and points toward healing, cleansing, re-birth and deliverance.
Eventually the pearl shows its beauty and value as it comes full circle.
It's a prized possession, and shows a multitude of colours when illuminated by the light.
